Conferral of the Bamboo Sprout

Conferral of the Bamboo Sprout

The bamboo sprout should be harvested at a certain moment of its growth, when it is already quite developed, but before it begins to lignify in the basal part.

The collection methods are different and can be carried out with a knife or a hoe (OnlyMoso customers can find the explanatory videos of the collection by clicking on the “Sprout Delivery” section at the bottom of the service newsletter).

To collect it it will be necessary to dig around the bud and make pressure right where the sprout attaches to the rhizome. Found that point it is necessary to give a clean blow (because the bamboo bud is hard to cut!) and at the same time to make a small rotation of the same sprout to facilitate its detachment.

But what characteristics must a bamboo sprout have to be suitable for retreat?

  • MINIMUM height 15 cm
  • MINIMUM diameter equal to or greater than 5 cm
  • Harvested with a clean cut
  • No earth and/or foreign material (straw, etc.) shall be present
  • Cutting must be as horizontal as possible
  • The cut must leave a part of white basal “hoof” (e.g. asparagus)
